Wow! That's all I can say. The picture above was taken about 15 seconds after Christina told me the great news. I was kinda caught off guard - I remember it well. We had just surprised Kelly by taking her to a Luau after she thought she was going to miss it. We were with some of our best friends here in Hawaii. The guys and I went to start doing our damage on the bar when I came back with a Rum Runner. Christina shouted for me from the beach. I sighed, yet another picture taking adventure on the same beach we have all of our other couples pictures. So I kinda drag my feet over to her, telling the guys I'll be back shortly. Phil, our photographer friend, who is rather fond of candid photography, decides to snap away at us. Christina kinda gave me a big hug. My reply was "Why don't you have a drink yet?". She put my hand on her tummy and told me that my son or daughter was in there. I didn't believe her.
Now, before I continue the story, I have to explain the reasoning behind my initial reaction. We decided we were ready to get pregnant back in March. Since then, almost weekly, Christina had bought a box of pregnancy tests. I swear, at some points I thought she was drinking water just so she could take another test. =P. And a few days before the Luau, she climbs into bed one weekend morning with a pregnancy test and says, "Be honest, can you see a second line? Cuz I do." Since I was in a deep sleep, I sit up, rub my eyes, and there was nothing.
Since this had gone on for months, I was so taken back by her certainty about being pregnant at the Luau. But after a few very very short moments of doubt, I realized that it was for real this time.
We're ecstatic. Our closest friends here in Hawaii have already given us TONS of their hand me down clothes for little boys from newborn to toddler. Some of the clothes never worn with tags. We have a three bedroom house and have already picked out the nursery.
So now all kinds of exciting new things have popped up. We haven't decided if we're gonna figure out the sex yet. (Although, let me tell you, it's gonna be a boy.) And I'm loving Christina being super tired all the time. I can stay up all night playing video games! =)
On father's day, Christina surprised me with the book Your Pregnancy for the Father to be, and I've been reading it on my lunch breaks at work. I'm learning all kinds of new stuff. My favorite part is a list of all her symptoms, when we can expect her to have them, and what I can do, as the Dad, to help her through them.
That having been said, we're about to call all you guys to tell you the GREAT news and tell you about the blog. So don't be shy, share with us this great blessing and leave comments!
